Players must make matching motions with their own controllers to cause their characters to perform the move. When positioned to execute a special ability or perform a special attack, an animated controller appears onscreen. Missions play out in different environments, but undetected infiltration and quiet, quick kills are always the objective. The game takes place across feudal Japan. As in the original PlayStation game, players take control of the exceptionally skilled ninjas Rikimaru and Ayame, and follow their stories as they protect the Gohda clan and keep the peace from behind the scenes. Stealth Assassins is played form a third-person perspective, a medium distance behind the character by default, but the camera angle changes often, according to the task being performed and the layout of the area.
Players may master as many as 17 ninja weapons in the game, each with unique Wii Remote control motions. From the creators of original Tenchu, a forefather of the stealth-action style, Tenchu: Shadow Assassins is designed just for Wii.
